Where the hell you been, loca?
The funny thing is that I’ve only seen the first Twilight movie. But I know how to stay relevant!
I wanted to take a moment to tell y’all where the hell I’ve been, what I’ve been working on, and what’s coming up in the humble onion world.
August – humble birthday, baybay
Celebrating one year of humble onion was so much fun, and I hope y’all liked the giveaways as much as I did. One person was able to get a Peaky Blinders-themed print and a set of last year’s Elf-themed holiday cards. They’ve got a leg up on the holidays, and I’m so proud to be a part of that!
Another person won a set of custom-designed stickers, and she smartly chose to have designs created for her bohemian-themed wedding. I feel blessed to be a part of such a special occasion, and would love to work on more wedding-themed items!
August was a moment of reflection, too, as my mom suddenly accepted a job in Washington State and needed help moving from Alabama. She and I made a road trip out of the move and saw some incredible sights that were truly inspirational.

September – Sports. Sports. Sports.
When the air starts to get a smidge cooler in Alabama, that means it’s football season. And football season means media guides!
This year we worked on two different publications: A football-exclusive one for Florence City Schools and an overall media guide for Shoals Christian School.
Both were photographed by the incredible Joe Romans Photography, a staple in our community who delivers world-class action shots that are the best I’ve seen. Period. Joe makes our jobs 10 times easier by taking such dynamic photos!
I also had the opportunity to stand on the sidelines of the University of North Alabama’s first home game as Bindra Productions shot video for an upcoming project in University Advancement. Vipul Bindra needs no help with creative direction, but I was happy to be able to plan the day and offer a few ideas for shots as creative direction support for the University.
October – What’s Next?
October will be no less busy. UNA is announcing something big and shiny soon, and October will be all about focusing on the hard work that has gone into that (and continuing to develop other branded items for the initiative).
I’ll be attending University and College Designers Association (UCDA)’s annual design conference, this year in Atlanta, where I’ll also be presenting on inspiration! I’m excited to not only network with other creatives in my field, but to hopefully inspire someone else. The conference is Oct. 14-17, and you can totally expect to hear more about it on the blog and on social media.
At the end of the month, I’ll be celebrating my 30th birthday in New England with my partner, Sam, but don’t worry – humble onion will still be open and fully operative thanks to our growing team.
Looking toward winter….
In November, we’ll have the same sale as last year on holiday cards, but we also create custom cards individualized for you, your family, and your interests. Send us an email to learn more about this, or keep your eyes peeled in November for our card sale!
Prints will also be on sale for Black Friday, and new designs will be added throughout October in celebration of Inktober.
In the New Year, our prices will be going up! I’ve been hard at work building skills so that I can give you and your business value that it deserves, and prices will be reflective of that.
That said, branding packages will remain half off through the end of the year (we’re talking $1,000 - $2,000 of savings!) and nonprofits always receive a 20% discount.
Tl;dr
August was busy with HOC celebrations and moving my mom across the country, but it was inspirational every step of the way.
September was FOOTBALL MADNESS but so, so worth it.
October is all about University of North Alabama initiatives, UCDA conference, and, of course, Halloween (in addition to my birthday).
November is when you’ll want to buy prints and cards at a discount!
December is the last time prices will be as low as they are now, so book ASAP!
